Sheep Go to Sleep
by Nancy Shaw
I have a very special place in my heart for the book Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw; it is the first in the series of all the sheep shenanigans first published the year my daughter was born. I have loved them all, especially, Sheep Take a Hike, Sheep Out to Eat, and Sheep Blast Off. However, this book, Sheep Go to Sleep is by far my favorite. The sheep each need one more thing before falling asleep and with the help of a friendly collie, each sheep receives the individual help and attention they need to fall asleep. In the end, we are surprised by where the dog who looks after the sheep has fallen asleep…a great play on a famous nursery rhyme in the end, but we will leave that surprise to you as you read! A great choice for babies and toddlers alike…and perfect just before putting your own little to sleep.

Duck! Rabbit!
byAmy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld
Looking for a new perspective? Duck Rabbit is a book of visual perspective…optical illusions that sets the stage for children to begin to understand that differing points of view can both be right. How do you see the illustrations? Duck? Rabbit? Both? Kids love this book, and it is often one of those books that ends up with the cover warn and the pages wrinkled from use. Look from all angles, does your perspective change? With a surprise at the end…what do you see?
On the original Duck Rabbit optical illusion it is said that people who see both are more creative…but in general more people see the duck and have a harder time finding the rabbit. Where do you stand?

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
by Judith Viorst
Who doesn’t have the occasional bad day? Yep, we all have bad days, even our littles, and we sometimes forget that! This book gives us permission to move through a bad day, without it being minimized…just seeing it for what it is, a bad day! Some books pass the test of time and this book has been around since being published in 1972. You might even remember it from your own childhood, it is a book we highly recommend. As a reminder “some days are like that, no matter where you live… even Australia.”

Hickory Dickory Dock
by Keith Baker
Teaching nursery rhymes to children is so full of benefits. Rhyming is a skill that should not be overlooked… it is a literacy precursor and we are huge advocates of making sure our little ones are proficient. Most of us are familiar with Hickory Dickory Dock and hopefully have sung it enough with our littles that they are also familiar. This book by Keith Baker takes that original nursery rhyme and adds to it by not only striking one but striking around the clock. Love this book and as an added bonus it is visually appealing!

The Poop Song
by Eric Litwin
One of the many milestones of being a toddler is learning to use the potty. Many parents fear potty training, but with this tool, potting training can become fun! Just add this book to the basket of books you keep near the potty. As a side note, the author was inspired when his wife a pediatric gastroenterologist noted how many families have children with pooping problems. Eric Litwin is an author who brings music and literature together and collaborated with James Dean on Pete the Cat and the Cool White Shoes. There is even a songthat you can listen to with this book. And hey….every living creature poops, this should give your child some potty inspiration.

My Book With No Pictures
by BJ Novak and _______
The Book With No Pictures is a favorite of ours for many reasons, but this book by the same author is even better because your child becomes the co-author of the book. If you are familiar with the sister book, you know that there is a rule for reading the book aloud… the reader is instructed to read everything the book says…the same applies here. This book can get quite silly and your child will take delight in the power their words have. We highly recommend this book, but reading the original The Book With No Pictures first is really a must.
